What are the benefits of Hansells Yoghurt?
Hansells Yoghurt contains 4 active live cultures including Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium lactis (described as probiotics). Probiotics perform beneficial functions in the human body including a healthy microbial balance in the digestive system. Yoghurt is highly nutritious and a rich source of essential nutrients including protein, calcium, riboflavin, thiamin, vitamin A, E and natural fats.​

How much yoghurt can be made in the yoghurt maker?

What if my yoghurt does not set?
There a few possibilities the most common errors are:
  • Water Temperature: Ensure water temperature used to mix the yoghurt is between 15°C – 20°C. If you have any doubts use a thermometer.
  • Volume of the Mix: Always fill to the specified level
  • Volume of boiling water in the maker: Boiling water should not be added beyond the recommended level in the maker.
  • Setting time: For best results 8 hours is the optimum setting time.
  • During cold periods it is advised to cover the maker with a towel and place beside a radiator or in an airing cupboard. 

How long does yoghurt take to set?
Setting time is very dependent on the atmospheric temperature. In cooler weather allow longer for your yoghurt to set. For best results 8-10 hours is the optimum setting time, even in the summer. To prevent possible spoilage, avoid leaving yoghurt in the maker longer than 14–16 hours.

How do I clean my Hansells Yoghurt Maker?
Always clean your Hansells Yoghurt Maker by wiping it with a damp cloth – do not immerse it in water.
Always clean the Hansells Yoghurt Maker mixing tub thoroughly after use. Wash it in hot, soapy water or put it in the dishwasher.

During the setting time, can I open the lid to check if the yoghurt has set?
Never open Hansells Yoghurt Maker or Tub while the yoghurt is setting. It is best to leave the yoghurt undisturbed during the setting period. Opening the maker early will let out retained heat.

Whilst the yoghurt is setting, can I place it in the fridge?
Never place yoghurt in the fridge whilst it is setting. Leave it at room temperature until set, then remove from the yoghurt maker and refrigerate.

How long will my yoghurt stay fresh in the fridge?
Yoghurt can be stored up to two weeks in the refrigerator. Freshly made yoghurt will contain the desired level of viable probiotic bacteria for up to two weeks.

What is in the yoghurt sachet?
The contents of the sachets consist of high quality New Zealand milk powder and lactic cultures, sugar, flavourings & natural colours.

What are the cultures in Hansells Yoghurt?
Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium lactis.

Are Hansells Yoghurts GM Free?
Yes

Is the milk powder pasteurised and homogenised? 
Yes

How can I make my yoghurt sweeter?

Add a tablespoon of caster sugar as you make up the yoghurt, or add icing sugar after it is set.

How can I make my yoghurt more acidic?
Leave in the yoghurt maker for a few extra hours.

TIPS

For a sweeter yoghurt: Add a tablespoon of caster sugar as you make up the yoghurt or
add a natural sugar alternative. Try stirring honey or fresh fruit after the yoghurt is set or when serving.

For more acidic yoghurt: Leave in the yoghurt maker for a few extra hours.
